Diving
Diving in Cabo de Gata is diving in the cleanest and most crystal clear waters in the whole of Mediterranean: visibility can reach 20 metres.
Cabo de Gata is one of the only places in Andalusia with a Marine nature reserve. It boasts one of the most impressive landscapes on the whole of the Almerian coast.
Diving in the marine reserves at Cabo de Gata and those nearby is a paradise of fauna and flora. It’s simply heaven for divers: one of the best places in Spain.
The waters offer an impressive variety of species and visibility is incredible. Some of the many species you may see here are moon-fish, barracudas, skate, morays, redfish...
The other great thing about this Nature Reserve is that beneath its waters, on underwater excursions you can find numerous varieties of molluscs and crustaceans.
Dive to your heart’s content here, but remember that you do need the PADI or an equivalent certificate to do so.
One of the most important local areas for diving is one mile from to the southwest of Cabo de Gata Lighthouse. You can dive to a depth of between 27 and 45 metres to a 100 metre submerged merchant ship which sank after hitting a rock in the 1920s. The variety of fish to be seen and the light are simply incredible in this particular area.
