Paraje Natural de Sierra de Alhamilla
Location: 40 Km Northeast of the city of Almeria.
Getting there: Regional road from the N-340.
Surface area: 8.500 hectares.
Natural characteristics
Sub-desert area with oak wood groves and replanted pines. Trumpeter Finch, Stone curlew, Little bustard. Dupont’s lark, Bonelli’s eagle and Royal Owl.
The most interesting biological characteristic is the oak grove on the crest of this mountain coast. These groves are a relic of the vegetation that, in other times and in other climatic conditions, must have been spread over much of the Almerian territories and which today have been stationed in this mountainous island, where they have found refuge from the extreme aridity of the surrounding areas.
