Punta Entinas El Sabinar
Location: West Coast of Almeria, next to Roquetas de Mar.
Getting there: From the road beginning inLas Marinas, on the road from Aguadulce to Roquetas.
Natural characteristics
The Punta Entinas-Sabinar nature Reserve is spread out over a narrow sector of coast about 14 kilometres long between El Ejido and Roquetas de Mar (Almeria). A sub-arid Mediterranean ecosystem which holds sandy beaches, dunes fixed with Mediterranean scrubland and an Endoreic area of salt flats and pools, which are used as a stopover for numerous species of migratory aquatic birds.
The beaches are protected by a set of well-preserved, fixed dunes and a salt marsh area. The exterior area of the beaches is colonised by marram grass which, inland, is substituted by different Mediterranean scrubland bushes.
We can find midland hawthorn, Phoenician juniper, black hawthorn, Thymelaea hirsuta and pita. The salt flats have a belt of salt marsh plants and carrizales with isolated examples of tamarisk, Bird life is characterised by Audouin seagulls and slender billed gulls.
The yellow foot gulls and herring gulls are in great danger as are the Laughing and dwarf Gull, the Stone Curlew, the lesser short toed lark and the flamingo.
